Teaching

Universities
Sophia frequently offers guest lectures about her work, and has previously spoken at Princeton, City University, SciencesPo and Oxbridge amongst other universities and institutions. In 2022 she was an Associate Lecturer at Gloucestershire University and has standalone and three-part lecture plans available.
Schools
Following her fellowship with Brown University’s Information Futures Lab, she has developed a lesson plan and podcast series that can be used to teach teenagers 15+ as well as their teachers and parents about content creation. The lesson focuses on how creators can use vertical video – smartphone friendly content such as Instagram Reels or TikToks – to create a positive social impact.
This can be delivered by a teacher or by an external creator like Sophia – please email work@sophiasmithgaler.com if you would be interested in one of these sessions. To deliver them yourself or learn more, request access to the resources here.
Sophia also creates bespoke sex education classes for schools following her research for her book, Losing It, and reporting around online misogyny. She is accredited to deliver relationships and sex education via acet UK and has a standard DBS check. In the past the classes she has designed include a training session for parents about adult content online and image-based abuse and a talk for 14-15 year olds on how to tell if a piece of information about sex is true or not.
